Tuan Town Commissioners, General Correspondence: File of general correspondence, generally letters between the County Manager and the Town Clerk (M Whyte or Gerald O'Connor) relating to the administration of the Commissioners, in particular issues relating to housing schemes and the allocation of houses, such as a list of '...first twelve priorities recommended by Tuam Town Commissioners for other than Newtown Morris or Slum Clearance Schemes' (20/01/1951), the estate of Albert E Sparling which included Tuam Meat Market, correspondence relating to the legal status of the Commissioners, with the Co. Manager advising the Town Clerk that '...the Corporation of Tuam ceased to exist in 1948 - that the Town Commissioners are not a Corporate Body and have no Common Seal...' (30/09/1950).
Also includes letters from individuals putting forward their case for a house, such as 'I am....married, and we have two children. We are living in one room 12 feet x 6 feet, and owing to so many people occupying rooms in this house I fear that we will all get into bad health if we remain here much longer' (14/03/1949).
