Curraghmore Bridge (Galway / Headford Road), re-construction of bridge
Correspondence, primarily internal but also between Galway County Council and the Dept of Local Government, regarding the appointment of Consulting Engineers to advice on the best way to repair or replace the existing iron bridge, the financial cost and subsequent appointment of contractors. Includes for instance
-Correspondence regarding arrangements for the provision of a temporary bridge during the reconstruction phase (1954-09-08) or providing light foot bridge for livestock. A temporary vehicular bridge at £10,000 was to be provided (1964-10-20).
- Correspondence between the Co. Engineer (Warner), Co. Secretary (Howlett) and others relating to the acceptance of the tender of J Paul & Co. Ltd in the sum of £64,562.6.d and subsequent issues relating to estimate for the cost of testing and cylinder piles which led to delays and discussion regarding the possible re-advertising of the contract or undertaking the work on the deck and superstructure of the bridge by direct labour (1967-05-25).
- Specification (Oct 1965), and Bill of Quantities and form of Tender prepared by Ryan & Associates, Consulting Engineers (1965) submitted by Lerrinmore Contractors (subsequently titled Maginn & Devlin Ltd) Surrey (1967) in the sum of £14,756 for the provision of piled foundations at Curraghmore Bridge and superstructure for additional cost (1969), and set of drawings signed by Maginn & Devlin.
- Lerrinmore commenced work in Sept 1969 (1969-09-25).
- Tenders for the superstructure received in late 1969 and contract awarded to Maginn & Devlin in the sum of £76.927.9.6.
- Work completed at total cost of £84.606.40 (1972-02-08).
