Bridewells, Oughterard: File of correspondence relating to the jail, and the proposed disposal and letting of the building and land. Includes copies of extracts of Galway County Council minutes relating to the Bridewell, letters from Frank Naughton, (Railway Hotel, Oughterard) prospective tenant, internal correspondence between the County Secretary (Walter Gordon Seymour) and County Surveyor (PJ Prendergast), and with John Kilkelly, Solicitor for the Council (46 Upper Mount Street, Dublin), and Mrs Leahy, Courthouse caretaker, who initially 'refused to give up possession (of the bridewell) without Orders from the Sheriff' (19 Aug 1908) and ejectment order. Also correspondence regarding a letting agreement with Naughton (which did not proceed), and later in the 1920s correspondence with the Department of Local Government and Public Health regarding the sale of the dilapidated building for 'the value of its building material' (22 Dec 1925).
