Galway County Council / Finance / Abstract of Accounts
Printed and handwritten Abstracts of Accounts, also known as Financial Statements, which show the financial outturn for the previous year or half year.
The accounts are presented to the Elected Members and audited by the Local Government Auditor who reports to the Minister for Environment and Local Government.
The Abstracts or Statements generally includes:-
- statement of accounts showing receipts and expenditure under various headings, which vary over the years, such as Roads Account, County Services Account, Board of Health Charges Account/ Health Services, Public Assistance Services Account, Urban Districts / Authorities Account, Housing Services, Sanitary Services and Separate Charges Account (which in 1929 for example included Corrib Navigation, Roundstone Waterworks, Headford Dispensary District, Gort Lighting, Athenry Sewerage, and Clifden Land Loan), and a Turf Production and / or Bog Account (from circa 1942-1958).
- table of the collection of poor rate, with details under various headings for the various Union districts,
- general summary of revenue receipts and expenditure,
- statement explanatory of the revenue accounts,
- capital indebtedness/ debt accounts,
- Statement of balances at closer of year
- Loans receipt and expenditure, and
- Secretary’s statements (which appear up to circa early 1940s only) relating to cash assets and liabilities, statement of insurance, statement of names and salaries of several officers (i.e. staff / employees), names and superannuation allowances of retired officers (such as County Surveyor, Rate Collectors, Veterinary inspectors, Coroners, Sub-Sheriff and Court-keepers, and Clerical Officers), pensions from County Board of Health recording name of retired officer, office formerly held (e.g. Cook, Wardsmaid, Shoemaker, Master), and pension per annum.
