Tomás Bairéad Papers, Letters from Morchadh Ó Dabhorionn (710 Bellavie Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15226, USA) to Bairéad, 1966 – 1973, Letter
Regarding a variety of matters, such as the 1916 Rising, 1919 local elections and recollections of his life in Moycullen and Galway, and his current life. He thanks Bairéad for sending him copies of the (Connacht) Tribune, though he believes they contain some incorrect information, such as "The Oranmore barracks incident is exaggerated, the most I think was a few shots fired on any enemy outpost during that week. Of course the story about Moycullen was overplayed", and gives a detailed account of his recollection of the story surrounding the events in the area during Easter Week 1916 and during the Civil War, mentioning comrades, such as Colm O'Gara who "used to tell us some good jokes…" (p6). Also giving information on the 1919 local elections, and referring to the Gaelic League and Irish speakers in his youth; and "I want to tell you that I will never grow tried reading anything you will write to me even if you disagree with me on some things" (p7). He tells of his recent attendance at a Feis in Cleveland, a short stay in Chicago where he met many old friends, giving details on who they are married to and where they work, and continues to mention days past, such as at the Galway Races and other sporting events, with friends and family, and his activities in his local parish, and concludes "I have to bring this rigmarole to an end as I am sure you will have a task on your hands to guess most of what I am trying to write" (p1).
