ROSSAVEAL PIER, PLANNING STUDIES: Includes:
- draft lease of foreshore between Minister for Transport & Power & Co. Co.; newly reclaimed area around pier;
- 1977, Galway County Council proposal to undertake maintenance of pier after execution by the Board of Works of an agreed programme of works designed to provide a fishing harbour at the location;
- details regarding access to Gaeltarra Eireann Factory site / facilities e.g. auction hall, Harbour Master’s office, toilets etc, ; Council endeavour not to accept responsibility for the sea approaches to pier or other dredging; and Co. to endeavour to finance the provision of Auction Hall by means of 50% BIM grant - 25% Roinn na Gaeltachta grant & 25% Co. Co. contribution.
- 1980, Old Pier collapsed in part & badly in need of repair. Harbour not yet under authority of Minister for Fishers & Forestry so Co. Co. to carry out necessary repair work.
- 1981, proposed Fishery Harbour Centre (Rossaveal) Order, to transfer all property, rights & liabilities of Galway County Council to the Minister for Fisheries & Forestry, & Co. Co to cease functions or duties in relation to managing the harbour
- proposed Fishery Harbour Centre (Rossaveel) Order 1981 - GCC does not own any harbour property proper in the proposed area of the Fishery Harbour Centre - it is understood that the Council does not own the old pier at Rossaveal which it maintains.

- Fishery Harbour Development Programme - projects at Rossaveal Maor Fishery Harbour Centre & at Roundstone are proposed in the Programme. 'The Rossaveal scheme involves the construction of a new pier, infill, dredging, the provision of an auction hall and ancillary facilities. Work, which is at present in progress, is estimated to cost of the order of £6 million' (1990-11-26).
