Portumna Castle, Visitors' Book
Leather bound, gilt edged volume with a few pages of signatures. Also includes pencil annotation ‘Lascelles came alone in 1917, 1918’. Signatures include:-
-Margaret Boyne, with pencil annotation 'sister of old Lord Harewood’ (Margaret Selina Hamilton-Russell (née Lascelles), Viscountess Boyne (1883-1978).

-Mary, 'my first visit to Portumna', October 6th to 11th, 1928 [Princess Mary, daughter of George V, King of England]. She, together with her husband, Viscount Lascelles, visited Portumna in 1928; it was the first time a member of the British Royal Family had come to Ireland after Independence. They stayed for two nights at Dunsandle House, near Loughrea, as guests of Mrs. Bowes Daly (nee Vivian Lascelles) while visiting Portumna Castle in October 1928.
Also includes letter 'cellotaped' into the volume from [ ] Roxborough (home of the Peress’s), Loughrea to Lord Lascelles apologising for not seeing him again and thanking him ‘for your hospitality. The rain knocked all the spirit out of us this morning...' (04/12/1919).
Also includes a note which states, "Presented by the Right Reverend Edwin Owen, Bishop of Killaloe and Clonfert", and ‘To the town of Portumna on the occasion of the restoration of the spire of the Church of Ireland, Parish Church, St Andrews Day 1975". According to contemporary newspaper reports Princess Mary and Viscount Lascelles were, during their 1928 visit, to attend services in the Protestant Church, His Lordship the Bishop of Killaloe will be present' (Irish Times, 4 Oct 1928).
