SCHEME DESCRIPTION
The proposed scheme provides a shared two-way cycle and pedestrian facility to connect to an existing facility with the village of Ballinderreen. This consists of a 760m long, 3.0m wide, cycle track design adjacent to the N67 southbound carriageway. It will tie into the existing footpath at the service station where there will also be a new controlled pedestrian and cyclist crossing installed. The proposal also includes a small section of one-way cycle lane, 2.0m wide, between the footpath and the northbound carriage for a length of approximately 30m. As a result of the new controlled crossing located at the termination point of the new cycle lane, the existing uncontrolled crossing at the service station will be removed.
SCHEME OBJECTIVES
- Reduce the risk of collisions between vulnerable road users and vehicles, especially between the end of the existing shared cycle and pedestrian facility south of the village.
- Improve the connectivity for vulnerable road users in the locality to the amenities within the village of Ballinderreen. These include the local shop, childcare facility, church, primary school, etc.
- Improve the accessibility of walking/cycling for users of all ages and abilities
