A zoonoses is a disease which is communicable from animals to man. Examples of zoonoses are:
- Bovine Tuberculosis
- Bovine Brucellosis
- Salmonellosis
- Listerosis
- Campylobacterosis
- Cryptosporidiosis
- E coli VTEC
- Toxocariasis
- Ringworm
- Toxoplasmosis
Veterinary Officers from Galway County Council are members of the Western Zoonoses Committee. This committee is comprised of officers from the HSE (medical officers, EHOs, Chemists) DAF (veterinary inspectors and veterinary research officers from regional veterinary laboratories) and local authority veterinary officers.
The work of the Zoonoses Committee involves communication between agency officers, increased awareness & education in zoonotic diseases. The ultimate aim is to increase awareness of zoonotic diseases in humans and by doing so reduce its incidence.
