The work of Galway County Council veterinary department involves animal welfare in a number of areas. These include:
- Welfare of animals prior to slaughter in abattoirs.
- Welfare of dogs. Galway County Council administers the Control of Dogs Act and the Dog Breeding Establishment Act.
In general Galway County Council is concerned with the welfare of all animals and will take any reports of abuse of animal welfare very seriously. The veterinary officers of Galway County Council liaise on an ongoing basis with the Garda Siochana, Department of Agriculture veterinary staff & the ISPCA.
