Personal Data
Your personal information will be treated with the highest security and secrecy when you submit an application to join the library. You are free to utilize the services of any public library in the Republic of Ireland when you become a member. Accordingly, all local authorities in this state will have access to the information that you provide when you join. In addition, trusted third parties who provide software support will have access to this data.
Your personal information will be treated with the highest standards of security and confidentiality, in accordance with the Data Protection Acts, 1988 and 2003.
We will only contact you in relation to your use of the service or if you have indicated that you wish to receive notifications about forthcoming library events and programmes.
Right of Access, Right to Correct and Right to Erase
To get details of any information about you held by Galway County Council all you need to do is write to:

Your request could read as follows:
I wish to make an access request under the Data Protection Acts 1988 and 2003 for a copy of any information you keep about me, on computer or in manual form.
Please include any details that could help us to locate your records. This might include:
- Library card number
- Any other information that may help us to identify your records
A fee of €6.35 may be charged.
You also have the right to correct any errors in the information held about you, block certain uses or object to the processing of your personal data. Such an instruction must be in writing. A request will be dealt with as soon as possible and will not take more than 40 days to process.
Changes to our Privacy Statement
If we change our privacy statement, we will post the changes on this page, so you will be aware of the information we collect and how we use it at all times. Continued use of the service will signify that you agree to any such changes.
