What is HAP
The Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) is a form of social housing support provided by your local authority.
Local authorities make a monthly rental payment on your behalf to your landlord, subject to terms and conditions, including rent limits. In return, the HAP tenant pays a weekly contribution towards the rent to the local authority.
It is up to the applicant to source private rented accommodation. The tenancy agreement remains a private agreement between the tenant and their landlord. Under the Residential Tenancies Acts 2004-2015, all private residential tenancies must be registered with the Residential Tenancies
HAP allows you to work full-time, while still receiving housing support.
How to apply
To qualify for HAP, you must first be approved for housing support.
You can download an application form for housing support here: Housing Support Application Form.
Once you are approved you will be sent a HAP application form, which consists of two parts: a Section A for you, the tenant to complete; and a Section B for your landlord to complete.
