Introduction

County Galway has a rich tradition in sport, volunteerism and local community involvement and the establishment of a Local Sports Partnership is an important factor in the future development of sport, recreation and physical activity in the county. Co. Galway LSP will harness the energy of local agencies, sporting bodies, and the community to lead and co-ordinate this development and to increase participation in sport, recreation and physical activity in the county.

County Galway is unique in many ways. It’s population, it’s geographic profile, and it’s deep cultural traditions and indeed areas of disadvantage within the county present a wide range of challenges. These are reflected in the size and diversity of the county, it’s rural and island communities, an extensive Gaelteacht area as well as  Clár and RAPID towns.  However with a spirit of cooperation and community involvement,  it’s sporting tradition and rich natural resources, these challenges can become real opportunities to extend and develop sport and recreation as a way of everyday life in County Galway.
