About the Arts Office

Welcome to the Galway County Council Arts Office website!

Galway County Council is the leading agency engaged in local arts development in County Galway. Through its Arts Office, it is committed to working collaboratively and in partnership with others to provide excellence and leadership in the development and delivery of the arts throughout the County.

The Galway County Arts Office has been in existence since 2001 and has had much impact and success, managing a wide range of programmes and supports in collaboration with key partners. Over the decades it has continued to support artists, professional arts organisations and artform development. It has created arts initiatives for young people, community groups and specific Arts in Context programmes (Arts in Health & Arts in Disability and Arts in Older Years).

Galway County Council has over 25 years’ experience in commissioning public art resulting in 15 public art projects ranging from permanent works to temporary projects. The Arts Office has overseen this extensive programme including the curated visual art collection, which is on display in our public buildings across the County.
