You are here…
A site-integrated sculptural installation for Tuam
“You are here…” is a public art project for Tuam by graphic artist David Lilburn in
collaboration with architect Jan Frohburg, both from Limerick. The project takes the Tuam chair as its starting point. This historic type of chair is rooted in the rural origins of the town and ties into local craft tradition. Tuam is the only place where this particular type of chair is still made today. This chair provides a recognisable emblem for Tuam even if manipulated in size and scale. Alongside this type of chair the proposal engages existing fixtures in the Tuam townscape. Together by installing small-scale sculptural objects and through map-making this art project aims to represent a place back to itself.
