Glance
Artist: Jim Vaughan
Materials Used:
Black & white photographs. These are digitally printed on a self-adhesive vinyl material specifically designed for outdoor use. This is mounted on expanded PVC and laminated with a protective polycarbon coating. The image bank stretches for 50 meters and is mounted directly to the wall behind the library and fire-station.
Artist Statement:
The photographs which make up the piece are concerned with the everyday details of life, those moments which have become so common as to go unnoticed. People have a tendency to photograph the more dramatic or ‘newsworthy' events, so the quotidian details go unrecorded.
For this project I wanted to dwell upon the unremarkable events. In doing this I feel that many people, both locals and visitors, would respond to the images because they would recognise in them something from their own
experience. Also, in concentrating on the more common events I feel that the images will resonate for a much longer period.
