Galway County Council Arts Office, Galway City Council Arts Office and Galway Culture Company in partnership with Visual Artists Ireland are delighted to announce our 2023 professional development events for Galway City and County visual artists. These events have been informed by the feedback received from you.
Firstly thank you to all of the Galway City and County visual artists who responded to our survey and attended our visual artists café at the end of 2022. We had 79 survey responses and over 50 joined us for a lively discussion about how this programme can serve Galway artists. While we’re not in a position to tackle all of the issues raised in the feedback through this programme, we thank artists for continuing to point to larger issues that require long term planning and significant resources for us to address.
As part of this programme we will host six events in total, one a month between March and July 2023. These events will be free for artists based in Galway City and County and we would like to encourage as many Galway based artists as possible to attend.
Webinar - Funding and Opportunities – Wednesday 29 March 11am-12pm.
Arts Council, Creative Ireland, Ealaín na Gaeltachta, Galway City Arts Office, Galway County Arts Office and Galway Culture Company will outline what funding and opportunities are available for Galway visual artists.
In person – Networking – Wednesday 03 May at 11-1pm.
The partners invite Galway visual artists to come together for tea and a chat at PorterShed. Galway County Arts Office, Galway City Arts Office, Galway Culture Company and Visual Artists Ireland will be on hand alongside Galway visual art organisations and programmers. This will be an opportunity to make connections with artists, arts organisations and with us.
Webinar – Safe to Create – Tuesday 16 May 11am-12:30pm.
Safe to Create is a Dignity at Work programme. Their aim is to impact change on the culture and practices of the arts sector in Ireland to provide safer working conditions for artists and arts workers. The Safe to Create team will outline resources and information relevant to visual artists.
Three webinars, two in June and one in July will be announced in the coming weeks.
Artists based in Galway who attend this programme of events will be asked to complete a short survey after each event. This is so we can measure if we are delivering what you need and inform our programmes in the future.
We’re looking forward to seeing you at one of our events!
