What is the Local Authority Affordable Purchase Scheme?
Under the Affordable Housing Purchase Scheme, Galway County Council will assist eligible members of the public to purchase new homes at a reduced price, retaining an equity share in the property, for buyers who are seeking to purchase a newly built home but whose combined mortgage and deposit will not cover the market price of the newly built property.

Who may apply for the Affordable Purchase Scheme?
In order to be eligible to apply for Affordable Housing, applicants must satisfy the below criteria:
- Be a first-time buyer or meet the exceptions under the Fresh Start Principe, or own a dwelling which, because of its size, is not suited to the current accommodation needs of the applicant’s household.
- Each person included in the application must have the right to reside indefinitely in the State.
- Each applicant is assessed and must meet certain criteria which will be outlined prior to application. For more information, please refer to the Affordable Homes website:

How can an applicant apply?
Applications will only be accepted through an online application portal. On the day the application portal opens, you will first need to register on the portal and then you can proceed to complete the online application form and submit the requested documentation.
The opening date and time for the for the application will be advertised at least two weeks in advance.
The decision on your application will be in accordance with eligibility criteria and Galway County Council's Scheme of Priorities. Available to view here Affordable Scheme of Priorities .
In certain circumstances application will be prioritised based on the date and time applications are received.
When affordable homes are made available for purchase, they will be advertised in the following places including details on how and when to apply;

- In a local / national newspaper
How can an applicant prepare for an application?
- Gather all the supporting documentation as set out in our Affordable Checklist.
- Apply for the Help to Buy Scheme (if applicable)
- We highly recommend that applicants would have Mortgage Approval in Principle in place.
